I dont have too much money so i cant get all that crazy fancy stuff like steam washing and that, im looking at run of the mill washer and dryers. remember gas dryer. Live in north east ohio. Thanks

As someone who is trying to reduce as many chemicals as possible out of their life, I was wondering how necessary are detergent and dryer sheets? I obviously knew they contained chemicals, but I never really though about it until tonight. I had odd wet looking stains all over my freshly washed and dried laundry, and asked the man who operates the laundromat what the hell they were, and he said sometimes dryer sheets leech chemicals into the clothes. This is not something I want on my body. Me and my fiancee don’t really get our clothes "dirty" with stains and stuff, we just perspire and wear the article a few times. Since they don’t really have any more dirt than skin cells and perspiration, and don’t smell weird or anything, do we really need to use chemicals to wash and dry them? I don’t care that they’ll be a little static-y, as I steam or iron almost everything before wearing anyways.

Also any other tips for chemical-free living would be great too, we know about food and household cleaning products, but I’m sure there’s lots of things with toxic chemicals lurking around the house we don’t think about (yet) if you care to share your tips THANK YOU :-)

Steam generator irons

Why would you want a steam generator iron rather than a normal iron? This little video shows you how this type of iron lets you escape the drudgery of doing the ironing for hours on end.

I had a hot water repair guy turn my hot water heater way up, saying that was why it wasn’t starting. Then my dishwasher latch stopped staying closed and the steam damaged my counter-top,and on the same day my washing machine left dark spots on my white laundry! When I measured the temperature of the water it was 170 degrees with the meat thermometer.

How do I remove household cleaner out of my iron?

HELP please, I thought I had emptied the clear liquid cleaner out of the clear spray bottle I have..(I have often done that when the cleaner is empty, I just fill it with water and use it to dampen the laundry before ironing) all this to tell you that last week I needed to add some water to the iron so it would steam…well instead of getting my measuring cup, filling it with water and then filling the Iron I just opened up the spray bottle and poured some into the iron. WELL It did steam and did make the wrinkles in the tablecloth go away but when I was done Ironing I looked at the bottom and it was oozing out of the steam vents.. That was last week. I thought I had poured lots of fresh water in it and even some vinegar and water… but even after much playing around with it there is still residue in the little clear water tank and after emptying it and refilling it over and over and over still oozing out with cleaner any IDEAS? I wiped it, sponged it but it keeps oozing!

I’m thinking of starting a residential cleaning business and I’m going to call local cleaning businesses and see how much they charge but I wanted to ask, how much would you pay? Would you want to pay by the hour or pay by the duty? I’m talking it would include laundry if need be, washing dishes, windows, bathroom, vacuuming, making beds, possibly organizing and even steam cleaning the carpet.

I live in university housing and my allergies are killing me. Web MD suggests vacuuming &steam cleaning &washing linens often &replacing your mattress, etc but being in University controlled housing I don’t have access to laundry or steam cleaners the way homeowners do. Meds don’t work for me for some reason.

Are there any remedies for me?

Its wierd I tried googling it see if there was other talk of it. I love the smell of heat that comes out of the laundry, steam from the iron and heat from the heating systems coming from the vents in the house. Sometimes I put the iron or curlers close to my nose to catch the heat smell. Im not trying to be funny I really do love the smell. Do you or someone you know like it too?

Are the new steam washers worth the $$$ ?

I am in the process of buying a new washer and dryer because the old one is on the fritz. Plus my family is growing and I have a lot of laundry. I am definitely look for front loaders and I’ve been seeing the ads for the steam washer. They are very pricey but I’m all for sanitizing. So anyone know if the steam washers are really worth the extra dough ? Do they clean better than regular front loaders ? Thanks

What’s the best steam iron to buy?

I bought an iron a few months ago. It’s supposed to be ‘drip-free’, but it seems to be the exact opposite, always dripping water even when i iron at it’s hottest setting. I’ve never dropped it, so it’s not like it’s cracked. I also don’t fill it beyond the max water mark. Which iron can i get that will give good steam and make taking care of laundry easier(I deliberately left out the brand of what i bought, so you can give me unbiased opinions)? Thanks!
