As someone who is trying to reduce as many chemicals as possible out of their life, I was wondering how necessary are detergent and dryer sheets? I obviously knew they contained chemicals, but I never really though about it until tonight. I had odd wet looking stains all over my freshly washed and dried laundry, and asked the man who operates the laundromat what the hell they were, and he said sometimes dryer sheets leech chemicals into the clothes. This is not something I want on my body. Me and my fiancee don’t really get our clothes "dirty" with stains and stuff, we just perspire and wear the article a few times. Since they don’t really have any more dirt than skin cells and perspiration, and don’t smell weird or anything, do we really need to use chemicals to wash and dry them? I don’t care that they’ll be a little static-y, as I steam or iron almost everything before wearing anyways.
Also any other tips for chemical-free living would be great too, we know about food and household cleaning products, but I’m sure there’s lots of things with toxic chemicals lurking around the house we don’t think about (yet) if you care to share your tips THANK YOU
I have recently purchased Melaleuca’s Sol-U-Mel and I love it, and I know that you can use it to treat stains on carpets, but is it safe to use in a steam cleaner?
I have cream colored carpet, and while there are no food/drink/etc stains, there are some blackish stains in the higher traffic areas.
I have a Bissell ProHeat 2X and I have tried all of the Bissell products and while they initially work, a few days later, I guess after everything has fully dried, some of the spots return. I usually do 2-3 passes with the steam cleaner.
I have also tried the "old school" method of ammonia and laundry detergent which works a little better, but still, the black spots return and I also have pets. Not to mention, I am 5 months pregnant and don’t need to deal with ammonia.
So does anyone know if I can use Sol U Mel in my cleaner. Sure, I could spot clean but that would take me almost as long to do as just steaming the whole living room. If so, do you use it full strength or diluted? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
a dirty brownish water comes out and stains my clothes. I need to know how to get rid of that rusty looking water that somehow comes out dirty because the water that I put in is clean but I guess the iron is dirty from the inside.
My new electric steam iron with tefelon bottom has developed black stains from where the steam comes out. I have tried to rub lime and also red vinegar but without success. Can anyone advise me, how to remove them .
The best way to clean a steam iron is with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda, which should be applied with a nice, clean cloth.
